Current in the industry: VAT on occupational health services as a focus of supervision
At the end of 2023, the Finnish Tax Administration announced that the social and health care sector would be one of the focus areas for VAT control. As a result, an extensive and intensive control project has been implemented in the sector, including tax audits covering previous tax years and tax measures guiding future tax years in the sector.
At Terveystalo, we are aware that some companies in the sector have recently received guidance to change their VAT practices with regard to occupational health services. The guidance is based on a dialogue between the Tax Administration and companies, as a result of which the Tax Administration has presented new interpretations and guidelines specifically for the operations of the company in question. However, the Tax Administration's general interpretation guidelines on the VAT treatment of healthcare services have not changed, and Terveystalo has not received any instructions from the authorities to change our current practices.
Terveystalo's VAT interpretations for occupational health services are based on our own dialogue with the tax authorities. In light of the news coming from the industry, we are actively monitoring the development of VAT practices for occupational health services in our industry. We regularly assess the impact of VAT interpretations in the industry on our business and the VAT treatment of our own services. We will keep our customers informed of any changes in the VAT treatment of our occupational health services.
