Terveystalo and Gosta Labs deepen their cooperation: the goal is to streamline work with a superior patient information system
Terveystalo is deepening its cooperation with Finnish health technology company Gosta Labs and investing €1 million in the company as a minority investor. The aim is to jointly develop artificial intelligence solutions that improve the quality of care and the efficiency of reception work as part of Terveystalo's new patient information system, Terveystalo Ella.
− The shortage of healthcare services and cost pressures have grown significantly, while current patient information systems do not sufficiently support the smooth workflow of professionals. At Terveystalo, we are responding to this challenge by developing a modern patient information system for our professionals, Terveystalo Ella, which frees up time for patient encounters. Our strategic partnership with Gosta Labs enables an even smarter patient information system. At the same time, we are strengthening our position as the leading provider of digital services in the field, says Ilari Richardt, Head of Digital Services at Terveystalo.
Founded in 2023, Gosta Labs is a Finnish health technology company specializing in the development of artificial intelligence applications for healthcare needs.
− As a domestic company, we are proud to be able to support Finnish technology and artificial intelligence expertise. Together, we are accelerating the change towards smoother and smarter Finnish healthcare, Richardt continues.
− The strategic partnership between Terveystalo and Gosta Labs will accelerate the ongoing development and deployment of AI assistants in healthcare on a significant scale across Europe. Terveystalo is one of Europe's largest private healthcare providers and therefore a significant showcase for our customers around the world. Gosta Labs and Terveystalo have been collaborating on product development since 2024, and based on the results of more than ten thousand appointments, we are expanding the development and use of the Gosta AI assistant and interfaces, comments Lauri Sippola, CEO and founding member of Gosta Labs.
Artificial intelligence will become a seamless part of the modern patient information system developed by Terveystalo
Terveystalo is developing a modern patient information system, Terveystalo Ella, in collaboration with healthcare professionals. The goal is to create a reliable, helpful, and intelligent partner for appointment work.
− Close cooperation with Gosta Labs enables the customization of AI solutions to Terveystalo's needs and the integration of tools into Terveystalo's new patient information system, Terveystalo Ella. This ensures that Terveystalo Ella provides intelligent support for appointment work and that professionals only need to use one application during their working day. Appointment work is made significantly easier and faster, says Tuomo Oikarainen, Chief Physician at Terveystalo.
AI-assisted recording has already freed up time and reduced the cognitive load on professionals
Terveystalo and Gosta Labs have been collaborating on the development of professional tools since 2024.
Already, 15,000 doctors at Terveystalo's chat appointments have used Gosta Labs' AI-assisted patient record documentation, in which AI drafts a proposal for a patient record based on the patient's initial data and the chat conversation. The doctor then either approves, edits, or rejects the proposal. AI-assisted recording is also being piloted with a small group of doctors at local clinics, Oikarainen continues.
Follow-up has shown that the quality of AI-assisted documentation is high, professionals have more time to spend with patients, and the cognitive load of reception work has decreased.
− The quality, patient safety, and value produced by artificial intelligence have been closely monitored. Only 2 percent of the proposals made by artificial intelligence have been rejected, 43 percent have been modified, and 55 percent have been accepted as they are. The doctor is always responsible for treatment and treatment decisions.
The starting point for the introduction of artificial intelligence is always the genuine benefit to professionals and customers
Through cooperation, AI-assisted recording will be available to Terveystalo's professionals in early 2026. Richardt says that the goal is also to explore other areas of patient care where AI could, for example, reduce administrative work or improve workflow.
− When implementing artificial intelligence, the value it brings to our customers and professionals, the smoothness of our services, and medical quality are always our starting points. Cooperation increases Terveystalo's competitiveness and enables us to offer technology to our partners, such as wellness areas, Ilari Richardt concludes.
