Interpreting at occupational health clinics for equal treatment

At Terveystalo, the service language of health professionals is mainly Finnish, Swedish and English. By using interpreting services, we ensure that customers receive equal and fair service at the reception.

As working life becomes more multicultural, the interpretation service can ensure that every person attending occupational health services can, if necessary, discuss in their own language their state of health, the different treatment options and their effects, and other issues that are relevant to their treatment decisions.

If the customer is unable to communicate in one of the above languages and the company has not arranged for an interpreter to be present at the consultation or the work capacity conference, Terveystalo will arrange for an interpreter to be present through its partner Youpret Oy and will charge the cost of the interpreting service to the company customer in accordance with the interpreting service provider's price list. In principle, the client's chaperone, colleague or other employer's representative cannot act as an interpreter for reasons of data protection and privacy. For the same reason, we also do not recommend using a relative as an interpreter when dealing with occupational health.

In acute emergency medical consultations, we ensure that the client receives the necessary service immediately. In such cases, we will endeavour to provide an express translation service, but if this is not available quickly, we will use freely available translation tools to ensure that the client receives acute care. If an interpreter has not been arranged in advance for a non-urgent appointment and the language barrier proves challenging, the appointment may be interrupted and the client will be rescheduled and an interpreter will be provided by Terveystalo. In this case, the original appointment will be billed according to the time booked.
