Coronavirus test

Description and testing criteria of a qualitative test for COVID-19

When a person becomes infected with a coronavirus, the virus can be detected by a coronavirus PCR test (so called coronavirus test). The test reveals coronavirus in the early stages of the disease. The coronavirus can also be excreted in a person who is asymptomatic. Therefore, for example in Koronavilkku detected exposure situations, asymptomatic people are also examined.

To get tested, you always need a doctor’s referral and an appointment.

Testing criteria

At Terveystalo, all patients with symptoms of respiratory tract infection or flu (cough, rhinitis, sore throat, muscle pain or fever) are eligible for a referral. If the test result is positive for COVID-19, an expert from Terveystalo will call you with instructions for further treatment. The price for referral to further treatment is EUR 36.

Rapid COVID-19 antigen test

A rapid test to detect an antigen either as individual test or included in the coronavirus test packages

Terveystalo offers COVID-19 antigen test to detect coronavirus, which suits well for persons with symptoms. Test results are visible in Oma Terveys -service approximately within 30 minutes after the sample collection. Rapid test is available across Finland and the exact locations can be found here.

The price of the rapid test is 163 € (after Kela-reimbursement 127 €).

Rapid antigen test can also be taken simultaneously with PCR test. Price for this coronavirus test package is 315 € (179 € after the Kela-reimbursement).

Find out whether symptoms are caused by coronavirus or another respiratory tract infection

Terveystalo offers different test packages which give a quick indication of whether the symptoms are caused by coronavirus or another respiratory tract infection, such as influenza in 13 locations. Both packages are eligible for Kela reimbursement.

  • Test package for persons with respiratory symptoms covers a wider rapid test that in addition to COVID-19 can detect 10 most common flu viruses. Price of the package is 315 €, after Kela reimbursement 279 €.
  • Wider test package for persons with respiratory symptoms covers a wider rapid test and the package includes also the PCR test. Price of the package is 365 €, after Kela reimbursement 266 €.

A certificate that shows a person does not have coronavirus symptoms

Some countries require a certificate confirming a negative coronavirus test upon arrival in the country, so that the authorities can manage the epidemic and efficiently take actions to mitigate it. At Terveystalo, everyone who needs this certificate has access to a coronavirus test and and Fit2Fly certificate (electric or paper) is delivered after the results are ready within 2–3 days of testing. 

With coronavirus test it is also possible to control that persons arriving to Finland from countries that have a higher rate of incidence do not carry an infection.

Coronavirus antibody test

Description and testing criteria of a coronavirus antibody test

The antibody test that is performed on a blood test, tells if you have already had the coronavirus disease. The antibody test can be performed at least three weeks after the symptoms began or you were exposed to the virus and you have no symptoms.

Coronavirus testing of non-Finnish citizens

E.g. work-related travel and tourists arriving to Finland

Molecular diagnostic tests (so-called coronavirus nose and throat tests) and antibody tests always require a referral. The easiest way to get a referral is by using Terveystalo’s Doctor Chat 24/7 service, which is open to everyone with a Finnish personal identity code.

In addition to Finnish citizens, coronavirus testing at Terveystalo is also open to everyone else, whether or not they show symptoms 

Testing is particularly recommended for those who arrive in Finland from countries that currently have a higher incidence of coronavirus than Finland. Examples include work-related travel to Finland for a project or work assignment as well as tourists arriving in Finland.

  • By taking a coronavirus nose and throat test, asymptomatic people can make certain that they have not been infected.
  • The coronavirus antibody test reveals a previous infection and whether or not the person has already had the disease.

If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, here’s what you should do:

  • The nurse will provide you with a referral and book a testing appointment at the clinic of your choice
  • After the test you will receive a certificate of your results within 2-3 days by way of encrypted e-mail
  • Should your coronavirus test be positive, an expert from Terveystalo will call you with instructions for further treatment. Price for instructions for further treatment is 36 €.

The total price of the test and certificate is 

  • 275 euros for a coronavirus  nose and throat test
  • 119 euros for a coronavirus antibody test
